What to Wear When Fly Fishing in the Fall Fishing

Gearing up is a big part of fishing, especially fly fishing. Professional fishermen know how to kit themselves up for the season. That’s why they catch as much fish as they do. Each fishing season demands a different set of tools for efficient fishing. The same applies for the fall season.

Fall can be more fruitful for fishing then you think. In the fall, there are lesser anglers. Also, fish have their feedbags on. So, you can pretty much get the same amount of bites as in any other season. All you need is the right equipment.

This article will help you with exactly that. We will tell you how to gear yourself up for fly fishing in the fall. Without further ado, here are the things you need to wear. However, feel free to check our recommended fish finders.

1. Clothing

Fishermen stay in the outdoors for hours on end. It is necessary for them to wear the right clothes otherwise it’ll hurt their patience. Here’s the clothing we recommend you go for:

Use spring wear

Surprisingly enough, spring clothes work just as fine in fall. Fall does mean lesser heat but not quite lesser sunlight. The lighter shades of spring wear will help reflect the light.

Don’t wear flashy colors

That said, you shouldn’t wear flashy colors either. Subtly light colors should do.

2. What to wear above

Now that you have decided on the clothes, you need to wear them. And yes, there is a technique for that as well. So, consider the following:

Layer up

Days are hot and nights are cold in the fall. So, if you’re planning on fishing for hours, you should layer up. You can remove clothes in the day and put them on at night.

Use a Jacket

Always keep a jacket with you in the fall, especially for fly fishing. The recommendation would be a parachute jacket instead of a leather one. Otherwise, your jacket may soak the moisture.

3. Footwear

Another important consideration is the boots. The waters in the fall are rather cold. So, if your shoes get even a little wet, the winds will freeze your feet. Here’s what you need to do to solve this:

Wear wading boots

The best Wading boots are the best for cold climates in general. They work amazingly well to keep water out. Plus, they are very comfortable. They are soft on the inside. This softness also accounts for their warmth. Their high calves allow you to step right into water puddles without worries.

Socks

Socks are equally as important as the boots. They should be warm, soft, and thick so that they fit well. We recommend socks that have fur on the inside. The fur is the best insulator and extremely comfy. They will also have an added thickness. This will help in giving a nice fit with your boots.

Conclusion

Fly fishing is a very strenuous and tedious task. So, to properly gear up is essential. We hope this article helped you with that. Regardless, we wish you the best of luck for your pre-winter fly fishing
