When most people are looking for a hunting vehicle, they often overlook one of the most versatile vehicles out there.
The golf cart.
Not only are they more comfortable and spacious than some of the more traditional side-by-sides and ATVs used, but they’re also much quieter and more affordable in most cases.
Driving an off-golf cart you have built from scratch can be a good idea as it will save you a lot of money. Modifying a golf cart for this purpose is pretty darn easy.
Ensure that you select a used golf cart that is well-maintained and look for the supplies and parts you need either locally or online retailers. Getting the parts and supplies online will help you save money as supplies and parts are sold at a cheaper price online. There are many accessories that you should consider adding to your cart.
Here is a list of modifications worth considering:
Lift kits are suspension parts that are used to lift the golf cart’s body to go over off-road terrain. Apart from raising a golf cart’s height, lift kits add a stronger suspension to the vehicle. If you drive a lower profile cart off-road without lift kits, you could end up injuring yourself or damaging your cart.
This is because such a cart would get hung up on terrain and ditches associated with driving off-road. There are different types of lift kits in the market including 3-inch, 6-inch and higher. The lift kits are available at different prices based on the suspension complexity and the lift height. Lift kits cost between 300 and 600.
Steering wheels are not a necessity but they make the driving experience more enjoyable. Select an attractive steering wheel to make your vehicle beautiful and offer a better grip and prevent fatigue on your wrists and hands while driving. Make sure that your steering wheel has a diameter of 13 inches.
There are different styles of steering wheels including formula car, wood grain, neoprene, and European. Neoprene steering wheels cost 45 dollars while a Formula GT steering wheel costs 190 dollars.
This one is optional but most of the stock golf carts out there come without a windshield. However, a windshield is a necessity whenever you are driving off-road in different hunting terrains. This is because you will encounter dirt, mud and the occasional branch when you drive off-road.
If you are unsure about the need for a windshield, look for one that folds down so that you can choose whether you want to use the windshield or not. Windshield cost ranges between 100 and 200 dollars depending on things like the thickness of the acrylic, style of the frame and their ability to fold down.
All Terrain Tires
You have to upgrade the stock golf cart tires to All Terrain Vehicle tires as you cannot use the stock golf cart tires. All-Terrain Vehicle tires are durable on rough terrain and have a good grip on muddy terrain. When looking for tires you will have a wide range of rim and tire combinations to choose from. Avoid low profile tires. Instead, consider tires with good traction and tread.
Tire and rim combinations cost between $100 and $300 dollars. Don’t make the mistake of skimping in this department as it is the most important part of off-roading upgrades.
This is all you need to build a first-class hunting machine. However, if you would like your hunting golf cart to be a little more customized, consider adding dashboard kits, rear flip seats, light packages, cargo boxes and other hunting accessories.
