One of the best parts of killing a deer is getting to eat the meat from the animal. Venison is one of the leanest, most healthy meats you can eat. And its tasty!!!
There are a ton of ways to cook deer meat but one of my favorites is deer chili. This is a pretty simple recipe that I came across one day and have used it several times. You can cook this in a big pot or a crock pot. Whip it up and let it simmer all day and fill your kitchen with good smells. This recipe is a more hearty than some I’ve tried in past. The longer you let it simmer, the more juices will form. As it cools it will thicken up.
People put all kinds of stuff in their chili bowl when they get ready to eat but here’s what I put in mine: cheddar cheese, sour cream, a shot of mustard and some Louisiana Hot Sauce.
The Peavine’s Deer Chili:
2 pounds ground deer meat browned
2 white onions chopped
1 bell pepper chopped
2 cloves garlic chopped
1 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon cumen
2 cans kidney beans drained
2 cans Rotel drained about halfway
2 cans crushed tomatoes drained
Saute veggies and place in pot, with spices. Brown deer meat and put into pot with veggies and spices. Cook on low heat for about 4-5 hours.
