service boat ac

Taking care of your boat isn’t actually that hard if you think about it. Boat’s are low maintenance vehicles that you only need to service a few times every year. There are many parts of the boat that you need to check out every once in a while. One of the most important parts is the air conditioning unit.

Aside from making sure that the unit is working properly, it’s also a must that you have it cleaned regularly. Air conditioning units are usually cleaned at least once or twice a year. However, since this is a boat’s air conditioning unit we are talking about, the frequency is different.

How Often Should It Be Cleaned?

On average, an air conditioning unit needs to be repaired at least once every two to five years. This is of course considering that the unit isn’t frequently used. Keep in mind that when you are on the water, these units aren’t frequently used as the breeze and the water around you make the air cold enough that you don’t need to turn it on.

If you are daily using it for hours on end, then it is a must that you have it cleaned as much as you would any other air conditioning unit inside your house. As such, it is always vital to at least open and check your AC if the filters are still clean and functioning properly. This is a critical part of air conditioning unit maintenance for many reasons.

Why Cleaning It Is Critical?

For starters, air conditioning units are most likely to break down unless they are maintained and kept clean. You might not see it but the filters are going to be much heavier with all the dirt build-up. If you don’t have it cleaned, you could end up paying for boat A/C repair services. And in the worst cases, you’ll have to replace the entire unit.

Another reason why you should have it cleaned is that dirty air conditioning units are actually bad for your health. You need to keep in mind that these units let air circulate inside your room. In a small room such as the inside of a boat, this leaves less area for the air to circulate freely. On your end, this means you are more likely to take in the dust particles and bacteria inside the room.

Poorly maintained air conditioning units can cause serious skin and respiratory problems. If you feel itchy whenever you turn on the unit, there’s a good chance that it is circulating allergens into the air. As for your lungs, you’ll know that there’s a problem if you begin to feel coughing and breathing heavily inside your boat.

Your boat’s air conditioning unit needs as much care and attention as any other part of the boat. It’s your health and money at risk after all. Air conditioning unit cleaning services aren’t exactly expensive so you really have no reason to avoid availing of such a service for yourself.
