fun family outdoor games

Camping is a lot of fun and a great way to bond together as a family. Kids feel like a free bird, while for adults it a great escape from the daily grind. You may have picked the best camping destination, planned the whole trip well in advance, packed in all the gears, but what you may not be prepared for is the dreaded word – “I’m bored“.

Yes, you head that right.

While camping is always refreshing and soothing, but kids or for that matter, even adults may get bored soon. You see, most of us are used to city lifestyle, glued to smartphone all day long. And suddenly going off-grid may not be a smooth transition.

Playing board games is always an option to kill boredom, but again it isn’t engaging enough to keep the attention of the kids for long. The best way to fight the boredom while camping is playing engaging and engrossing games.

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. In this weekly roundup, we’ll share Top SIX real sports games you can play while camping.

Ping Pong

Are you even serious? How can one play Ping Pong in the wild? Sorry to break your thunder but you very much can. And there are a couple of ways to do it.

If there is a solid picnic table at the camping ground, you just need to plug a retractable net, and you have a working Ping Pong table for you. Grab a couple of paddles and set the ball rolling!

If not, you can get yourself a folding multi-game conversion top which is small enough to fit in your car. The top can be placed on any solid table, letting you enjoy the sport in the lap of nature. You can also buy portable and the best ping pong tables. Additionally, you can play other games like backgammon and Ludo on the table as well.

But if you’re one of those who is looking for a completive and immersive gameplay experience, we suggest to get yourself a portable/mini pong table. These tables are smaller than regulation tables but offer real match-like experience. And the best part, they still fit in the back of your car easily.

Ladder Ball

Next in the list of my favorite outdoor camping game is Ladderball, primarily because it occupies the least space in the trunk and is so much fun the play. I feel like a hunter, hunting its prey while playing this game (No Kidding!).

The objective of the game is simple, throw the bolas so that it wraps around any of the three rungs. Points are earned based on which rung, the bola clings to.

Kids are sure to love this game. The sight of watching bolas cling to the rung is fun to watch.

Disc Golf

If you’ve not played this game before you’re missing out on loads of fun. Disc golf or often referred to as Frisbee golf is a flying version of the Golf. The goal is simple – to put the Frisbee in the basket in as few throws as possible. Like golf, there are long-range, short-range, and putter discs. The winner is the one who places the basket in the least number of throws.

A fantastic camping game, by all means.

Horseshoe

Horseshoe may be a century-old game, but that does not mean it offers less fun. A simple game that requires a minimal set of equipment. The objective of the game is to throw the horseshoe so that it lands as close to the stake as possible or even better rings around the stake.

A perfect game for kids to learn hand-eye coordination and improve concentration.

Bocce Ball

Does bowling sounds like fun? Then you’re surely going to like Bocce Ball! The objective of the game is land the bocce ball as close as possible to the smallest ball. Each player starts by rolling the ball on the ground. In the subsequent attempt, whosoever player lands the ball as close to the smallest ball wins. Check out these Bocce ball sets.

Dodge ball

This is an all-time classic game, suitable for teens and adults and requires just a softball to get going. The game starts by throwing the ball up in the air and letting the ball bounce at least three times. The two teams compete with another to pick the ball first. A player can run maximum three steps before passing the ball to another of his/her team member.

Each player hit the opponent player with the ball, and the player who gets hit is out of the game. The winner is the team which is last left alive or the player who is last man standing.
